The name “Winnow” comes from the ancient practice of separating the wheat kernels from the chaff by tossing the crushed wheat straws into the air and letting the wind carry the chaff away, leaving only the usable (and heavier) kernels to fall back into the basket. At Winnow Gallery & Goods, we look for the most usable kernels of home design and bring them to you at our shop and on our website.
For our “goods”, we seek out utilitarian household items that have been transformed by the hands of a skilled artisan or craftsman. We look for timeless objects that combine an understanding of the deep human affinity for home with a designer’s eye for beauty. We celebrate the handmade, with all of its irregularities and inconsistencies, over the mass-produced and perfectly matched.
In our “gallery”, we exhibit the work of local artists in combination with the display of our unique goods. We are committed to showing no less than four new artists each year, one for each season. Our goal is to help inform our community about the many talented but perhaps not so well-known artists that dwell among us, and at the same time show our customers the pleasures of making original art a part of their home design and style choices.
